Our monitoring catalogs
Each individual marine mammal is unique and possesses its own distinctive features: the shape of its dorsal fin, scars, spots, or patterns on the body or tail fin.
These markings therefore act as a fail-safe way to identify an individual—this is where photo-identification truly comes into its own.

With this method, we collect data and build catalogs of identifiable individuals, enabling us to:
-
Understand the social structures of groups such as Bottlenose dolphins.
-
Track the migrations of Humpback whales.
-
Estimate the population size of species like Sperm whales.
Thanks to your photo-identifications, OMMAG has compiled 11 catalogues of the most representative marine mammal species in the Guadeloupe Archipelago.

That’s why, in the context of this citizen-science project, your observations and images are invaluable.
Please feel free to send them to us via the submission form or to your regional contact.
